“O our God wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.”
2 Chronicles 20:12. KJV
When you are overwhelmed, the question is not ‘what am I going to do?’ Yes, that is not the real question you should ask. When your back is on the wall, what you should really zero in on is, which way should you look? Where should you focus?
In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat woke up in the morning and suddenly, unannounced, the enemy hit him like a thunderbolt. He was besieged. The enemy cornered everything about the city. He was overwhelmed, but I love what he did. He ran to the altar and called his entire domain and said ‘Let us fast and pray.’
In his prayer, he said ‘Lord, the truth is that we have no power against this people.’ He said, ‘we are overwhelmed, we are in jeopardy and in difficulty because these people are going to overrun us if you don’t show up. Our eyes are on you.’ The Bible says in Psalm 34:5 that they looked on to Him and their faces were enlightened, and they were not ashamed. In their adversity, they looked on Him and their faces were enlightened, and their faces were not ashamed. Hebrews 12:2 says ‘looking on to Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith.’
Look on to Him and not at your situation or the pressures you are going through or the medical doctor’s report. Look not at your condition because all these things are subject to change. But Jesus does not change. Look unto Jesus who does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Isaiah 26:3 says; ‘Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusted in thee.’ You may be in trouble. But God is not in trouble. And when you have your eyes on God and you give God your attention, He will give you direction.
