LEARN TO APPRECIATE GRACE

“And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba divide the land. And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own house.” 2 Samuel 19:29-30 KJV

When David was running from his son, Absalom, Ziba ran to spoil Mephibosheth before David as we see in the account in 2 Samuel 16:3. But then, Mephibosheth was an example of person who appreciated grace. So, when David was finally returning to Jerusalem, Mephibosheth came down to meet him: “…Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace” (2Samuel 19:24 KJV).

Mephibosheth was actually mourning while Ziba had said he abandoned the king. This young man did not even shave his beard! He was waiting until the king returned. What a sacrifice! Why did he do this? He appreciated David’s kindness to him. Mephibosheth was dumped in Lodebar and unless somebody helped him, that would have been his end. There are some of you who are talented and brilliant but you are dropped because you don’t have vision helpers. You have ideas but you need a push from somebody. That push will come to you!

As far as Mephibosheth was concerned, nothing was too precious to give up for the King David’s sake. Pertaining to land and properties, Mephibosheth didn’t want any of them (2 Samuel 19:30). All he cared about was to be in the company of King David and his household.

We need to get to that point where we are just content that God is our Father; a point where we do not elevate our temporal needs over our relationship with God. After all, “… a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15 KJV).
