Learn to lead

January 4, 2020

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.” – PHILIPPIANS 2:3

In a book on leadership, that was a business bestseller a few years ago, John Maxwell stated, “Don’t wait for that promotion. Start leading NOW…right where you are!” While that may sound strange, research shows that 99 percent of all leadership doesn’t come from the top of an organization but from the middle.

There are numerous biblical examples of this type of leader, but my personal favorite is Joseph, whose story is told in the latter part of Genesis. Joseph rose from the shame of slavery and imprisonment to become Pharaoh’s right-hand man, thanks to his leadership among his fellow prisoners and in the royal court. Ultimately, his faithful leadership paved the way for his entire family to move to Egypt.

How can you develop your leadership potential in this new year? Manage your priorities, your energy, your time and your thoughts. Learn to lead wherever God has positioned you. And look to Jesus as your ultimate Leader. Follow Him as you lead others and as you do, be sure to show the love of God to those He entrusts you to lead.
