LIFE IN THE SPIRIT

Romans 8:12-13 (CEV, GNB)

My dear friends, we must not live to satisfy our desires. If you do, you will die. But you will live, if by the help of God’s Spirit you say “No” to your desires. *So then, my friends, we have an obligation, but it is not to live as our human nature wants us to. For if you live according to your human nature, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death your sinful actions, you will live.

As God’s children, we have received life in the Spirit and God expects us to live our entire lives by the leading of His Spirit. Galatians 5:25 says, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” The Good News Bible says, “The Spirit has given us life; he must also control our lives.” As God’s children, we are not meant to live by the flesh (the cravings of our human or sinful nature). When we live our lives controlled by the flesh, we will experience death (separation from the life of God).

It is when we are not deliberate about allowing the Holy Spirit lead and control our lives that we find ourselves living like people of the world do. The ONLY way we can overcome the flesh, is by living according to the leading and control of the Spirit, (Gal.5:16).

Along with having victory over sin and dominion over the flesh, there are so many glorious benefits of living by the leading and control of the Spirit. Living in the Spirit is how we grow and mature as believers. It makes us experience the fullness of the Kingdom and the life of God, (Rom.14:17, Rom.8:13, TPT). It makes us grow in our faith (2Cor.5:7), the fruit of the Spirit develops in us, (Gal.5:22-23) and it makes us experience an abundance of divine life and peace, (Rom.8:6).

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I desire to live by the leading and control of your Spirit. Help me yield myself to your Spirit and not to the flesh.
