Text: 2 Kings 15:27-38 (KJV)

27 In the two and fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekah the son of Remaliah began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned twenty years.

28 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

29 In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abelbethmaachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria.

30 And Hoshea the son of Elah made a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and smote him, and slew him, and reigned in his stead, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah.

31 And the rest of the acts of Pekah, and all that he did, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

32 In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah king of Israel began Jotham the son of Uzziah king of Judah to reign.

33 Five and twenty years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jerusha, the daughter of Zadok.

34 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD: he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done.

35 Howbeit the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burned incense still in the high places. He built the higher gate of the house of the LORD.

36 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

37 In those days the LORD began to send against Judah Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah.

38 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.

Key Verse: “And the rest of the acts of Pekah, and all that he did, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.” – (2 Kings 15:31)

MESSAGE:

Everything that has a beginning surely has an end. This is a well-known saying. Life, no matter how long or short, will certainly end one day. Unfortunately, we often do not want to think of this. But it is something inevitable. We must all face the reality of the end of life one day.

Our text x-rays the lives of two kings – Pekah over Israel in Samaria and Jotham over Judah in Jerusalem. King Pekah did evil in the sight of the Lord and walked in the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. Jotham, on the other hand, did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, though the high places were not removed and the people sacrificed and burned incense still in the high places. At the appointed time, both kings died and their acts were written in the book of chronicles of the kings.

The good, the bad, the old and the young die. One of the important things not being taken seriously is reaching out to sinners. Time waits for no one. We often seem to think that there is plenty of time and another opportunity to speak to a person will always present itself.

Life is short and time is short for Christians to win the lost. Time is short for the backslider and the sinner. Many sinners out there think they have all the time to make it right with God. Christians, on the other hand, think sinners have plenty of time to get saved. But sinners do not have plenty of time, as many are going to ‘Christless’ eternity daily. Evangelism is the avenue through which we can reach them and whatever we do is recorded in heaven. We must be obedient to this Great Commission, lead the sinner to the point of personal assurance of salvation and not let anyone’s blood be required at our hands because life is short for us and sinner likewise.

Thought For The Day: Life is short for you and the sinner: do the rewarding work.
