Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.” – 2 Timothy 1:13

I teach my disciples to listen to messages I have preached for several reasons. Many of these reasons are solidly based on the Scriptures and also on common sense.

I would recommend this to anyone who wants to do well in the ministry.

There is a clever accusation that seeks to ridicule this spiritually beautiful exercise of listening to messages of the leader. Rebellious men who want to leave should just leave without bothering to attack things they don’t understand.

I encourage pastors to listen to my messages in order to learn how to preach. “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises” (Hebrews 6:12).

Listen to messages as a resource material that you can use to give you stuff to preach. Pastors have to preach many messages all the time and it is always a blessing to have a resource. The preaching and teaching messages of other ministers have been my greatest blessing and a source of inspiration.

Paul asked Timothy to listen to his messages and repeat them. “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:1-2)
