LISTEN FOR GOD’S VOICE AS YOU PRAY

2Chronicles 20:2-3, 14-15 (GNB)

…messengers…announced…”A large army from Edom has come…to attack you….Jehoshaphat was frightened and prayed to the LORD for guidance. Then he gave orders for a fast to be observed…. *The spirit of the LORD came upon a Levite.…..Jahaziel said, “…, the LORD says…you must not be discouraged or…afraid to face this large army. The battle depends on God, not on you.

One of the greatest joys of prayer is the privilege of hearing God speak to us as we pray unto Him. Prayer is communication ‘with’ God your Father in the authority of Jesus. Communication is not complete without a response or feedback. When you talk to God, He listens to you and He also talks back to you. God wants you to expect Him to talk back to you. Listen for God’s voice as you pray. As a child of God, you have the ability to hear God’s voice, (John 10:27).

You can hear God’s voice by the word of God and by the Spirit of God, (1 Cor.2:9-12). We can get answers and directions from God’s word. God’s word is a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path, (Psa.119:105). Jesus said the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth and show you things to come, (John 16:13). He said the Holy Spirit will teach you all things and bring God’s word to your remembrance, (John 14:26).

In our text above, together with the Israelites, Jehoshaphat prayed to God about the threat they were facing and by the Spirit of God they heard God’s voice and they received strength, comfort and direction. The threat was turned into a mighty triumph for them. As you pray, the Holy Spirit can give you a word, a counsel, an urge or a release or restrain on the inside about what you are praying for.

Action Point:
Pray unto God about the desires in your heart and listen for His voice and direction from His word and Spirit
