LOOKING UNTO JESUS: THE AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF OUR FAITH (1)

Hebrews 12:2 (AMPC)

Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

As a believer, the source or reason for the faith you are standing on in every area of your life is very important. Why do you believe what you desire is possible? Is it because of what the Gospel says about you in Christ? Or is it because of any other reason? The faith God wants you to have is the faith that is based on Christ. Christ must be the author or source of your faith. Always ensure that Christ and all God has said and done for you in Christ is the basis for what you believe.

Now, it’s not enough for Christ to be the source or author of your faith. He must continue to be the sustainer and perfecter of your faith. Don’t start out by faith in Christ, then turn your focus to someone or something else. Don’t even try to sustain or perfect your faith by yourself. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Keep studying, meditating and praying in line with the Gospel of Christ concerning that desire you have.

According to Colossians 2:6, it’s the same way we received Jesus Christ as Lord that we are supposed to walk (live the rest of our lives) in Him. How did you receive Jesus as Lord? By putting your faith in Him. The Living Bible says “And now just as you trusted Christ to save you, trust him, too, for each day’s problems; live in vital union with him.”

Prayer:
Father, I thank you that Christ is the source of my faith in all areas of my life. Help me to keep my eyes on Christ to the end.
