LORD OPEN MY EYES
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,” Ephesians 1:17-18 KJV
I believe the greatest need for believers who have accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour is a revelation. It is a revelation that will give you solidity. This is why in our text, Paul prayed for our eyes to be opened, because once you receive the revelation of the Word of God; it changes everything. It gives you boldness over the enemy. This is why the prayer in the book of Ephesians is very key because it is possible to be in a land of abundance and not to know. May your eyes be opened.
In Genesis 21 Hagar and Ishmael were sent away and while on the journey, their supplies finished. They had no more water. At this point, they were in Beersheba which was a land of wells. However, in that land, they were crying because they had no more water to drink. The scriptures say Hagar put Ishmael afar of so that she wouldn’t watch her son die, and she cried unto God. The Bible says in verse 19, that God opened her eyes to see what was already provided, and then she saw the well which was there all along.
Beloved, I believe with all my heart that our posture should be that of, “Lord open my eyes,” so we can see the things that are already ours as a result of God’s Mercy. There are things that God has already perfected in eternity and ordained for our glory as a result of His mercy and Grace but until our eyes are opened, we cannot possess it. Lord open my eyes should be our prayer today. The truth is that sometimes we think we know. We speak all the Christian language and everything. But when it comes down to it, do we really know? Do we really understand what the Mercy of God is and all that pertains to us because of this great Mercy? God is so rich in Mercy.
