Loretta Lynn’s Final Message to Fans Involved a Bible Verse: Live ‘by the Truth’

The final message to fans from country music legend Loretta Lynn involved a Bible verse quoting the words of the Apostle John.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, Lynn passed away in her sleep Tuesday morning at her home in Hurricane Hills, Tenn., following a 60-year career that saw her win four Grammys, seven American Music Awards and eight Country Music Association awards. She sold more than 45 million albums and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008. She was 90.

Lynn also was known for her Christian faith. She released a Hymns album in 1965.

“I pray a lot,” she told Woman’s World in 2020. “I think God is always with me. When I need Him, I know He’s here. He’s been with me and pulled me through stuff that I didn’t even know I was going through until it was over. And when it did hit me, and I realized that God had been with me the whole time, that made all the difference to me. He’s gotten me through everything, good, and bad – and that fills my heart with peace.”

Lynn’s final message on Facebook involved a Bible verse, John 3:20-21. It was posted Sunday morning, two days before she died.

“Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed,” her post reads. “But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God (John 3:20-21, NIV).”

The post also included a graphic depicting the New Living Translation of John 3:21: “But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

Lynn’s Facebook page was a mixture of Bible verses, photos from the past and pictures of her “Loretta Lynn’s Ranch,” a tourist attraction in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

Last Thursday, her Facebook page included an old photo of her and Crystal Gayle. The previous day, it included a photo of her and Dolly Parton.

“Dolly Parton and I always have a great time together!” she wrote.

Her Sunday posts often included Bible verses.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from?” she posted on Sunday, Sept. 11, quoting Psalm 121:1-2. “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
