“How you are fallen from heaven,
O Day Star, son of Dawn!
How you are cut down to the ground,
you who laid the nations low!”

–Isaiah 14:12

If you watch very many movies, you know that every bad guy has an interesting backstory. Well, our spiritual adversary, Satan, is no different. In fact, as we read about his origins in the Scriptures, we find he was once a beautiful angel.

In Isaiah 14, we’re given a glimpse into what went wrong. You see, Satan became proud. So proud, in fact, that he said in his heart, “I will ascend to heaven… I will make myself like the Most High” (14:13-14).

Throughout the pages of Scripture, we find various flashbacks to this event that happened sometime before the creation of man. In Revelation, we find Satan depicted as a dragon who “swept down a third of the stars of heaven” (12:4), often thought of as a third of the angels who followed the devil in his rebellion.

Lucifer, the son of the dawn, had everything he needed to be content. Yet even with that, he wanted more. He doesn’t get another chance. But God gives us a chance to repent and turn to Him even when we’ve been prideful. Praise God for that chance today and stand strong against the accusations of the enemy.

STAND STRONG AGAINST THE ENEMY WHOSE PRIDE WAS HIS RUIN. PRAISE GOD THAT HE GIVES US THE CHANCE FOR REDEMPTION!
