MEMORISE: Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8

Read: Matthew 22:34-40

  1. But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
  2. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
  3. Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
  4. Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
  5. This is the first and great commandment.
  6. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
  7. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Bible In One Year: Haggai 1-2; Revelation 16:1-21

MESSAGE:

Love is the greatest commandment. If you are a child of God and you truly love Him, you will obey His commandments (John 14:15 ). Love is an action word. That means love is what you do, not just what you say. God wants you to love your neighbour as you love yourself. In other words, you are expected to do unto them things you will do for yourself. When you show love to your neighbour, you are showing love to God. Your neighbour in this context doesn’t only mean the person living next to you. Your neighbour is anyone connected to you in school, at home, in church and around you.

You can show love to your neighbour by being kind, helpful, patient and understanding. Do not be proud towards them, even if you happen to have more than them. Instead, give to them in their time of need. Share with them also. Be available to help solve problems so long it is within your power. Don’t harbour unhealthy thoughts towards your neighbour. Check on them as often as you can. Merry Christmas!

Action Point:

Show an act of love to someone today.

HYMNS: ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS

  1. Onward, Christian soldiers,
    marching as to war,
    Looking unto Jesus
    Who is gone before;
    Christ, the Royal Master,
    Leads against the foe;
    Forward into battle,
    See his banner go.

Chorus:
Onward, Christian soldiers,
marching as to war,
Looking unto Jesus
Who is gone before.

  1. At the name of Jesus,
    Satan’s host doth flee;
    On then, Christian
    soldiers, on to victory!
    Hell’s foundations quiver
    at the shout of praise;
    Brothers, lift your voices,
    loud your anthems raise!
  2. Like a mighty army
    moves the church of God;
    Brothers, we are treading
    where the saints have trod;
    We are not divided;
    all one body we,
    One in hope and
    doctrine, one in charity.
  3. Crowns and thrones may
    perish,
    Kingdoms rise and wane;
    But the Church of Jesus
    Constant will remain:
    Gates of hell can never
    ’Gainst that Church prevail;
    We have Christ’s own promise-
    And that cannot fail.
  4. Onward, then, ye people,
    join our happy throng,
    Blend with ours your
    voices in the triumph song;
    Glory, praise, and
    honour, unto Christ the King;
    This through countless ages,
    Men and angels sing.
