Lamentations 3:24-25 (NKJV) “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him.

Lamentations 3:24-25 (LB) My soul claims the Lord as my inheritance; therefore I will hope in him. The Lord is wonderfully good to those who wait for him, to those who seek for him.

Psalms 16:5 (NKJV) O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot.

Psalms 16:5 (NLT) Lord, you alone are my inheritance my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine.

To make God your portion is to desire Him and to put your faith in Him above everything else in every area of your life. It is to make God your universal refuge. That is, to see Him as the guarantee of your safety and success in every area of your life. It is to acknowledge that it is not you nor what you know or have that makes you anything or that guarantees yours safety and success; but God Himself in you and His power and grace manifesting through what you have that makes you safe, successful and all that you are. It is to trust God as your source and to know that He is able to divinely meet all your needs. It is to realize that because you have God, you have all things and you do not lack anything.

In Psalms 23:1 (GNB) David said, “The Lord is my shepherd; I gave everything I need.” In Psalms 142:5 (NIV) David said, “I cry to you, O Lord; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” The New Living Translation says, “then I pray to you, O Lord. I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.” When you make God your portion, He becomes your I AM THAT I AM indeed. He injects His abundant grace, power and favour both into you and into what you have (your knowledge, your abilities, your resources and your connections). This causes you to have a deeper sense of wholeness and what you have has more value and impact than it ordinarily should. You are able to achieve greater things with what you have than people who seem to have more on the outside. God Himself brings His divine fullness, favour and multiplication into you and what you have.

Prayer:

You are my portion, O Lord, and with you I have everything. You are my all in all and in every area of my life. I trust in you Lord with all my heart.

Bible in one year reading plan: Joshua 13-15, Luke 1:57-80.
