And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse
Because of advances in modern medicine and technology, over 500,000 people over the age of 100 are alive today. As people live longer, it is not unusual for four generations to share the same space.
This togetherness has emphasized the gap – the power struggle – that exists between generations. The young believe the elderly are in error; the more mature believe that young people have wandered far off course.
For those in Christ’s family, though, He comes to turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. Since every person is created in the image of God – by Him and for Him – we respect others. If a person is alive and breathing, God has a purpose for him or her, and we honor His decision.
We must abandon selfishness in favor of sacrifice. As we seek to honor God and fulfill the good works that He prepared for us to accomplish, we make room for one another. We honor the experience and the energy, the tradition and the transformation. We allow for differences as we press toward the same goal.
In the middle of the messiness of generations sharing the same space – in the center of it all – our hearts reach for our Father. And He turns our hearts towards one another.
Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May you honor God’s image in every single person that you meet. May you love them with the heart of Jesus. Embrace the beautiful diversity and the blessing of being a member of His family through Jesus…amen.
