But go, tell His disciples—and Peter—that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you

Who would roll away the large stone to allow them access into the grave? Very early in the morning, a group of women made their way to Jesus’ tomb. Shocked, they found the stone rolled away. An angel instructed them to tell the disciples – and Peter – that Jesus would meet them in Galilee just as He had promised (Mark 16).

Why did the angel specifically mention Peter’s name? Impetuous Peter – always running off at the mouth and making grandiose promises. After all, didn’t he fervently avow that, even if everyone else rejected Jesus, he would never disown Him? (Matthew 26:35).

Yet, a short few hours later, he denied even knowing the One he had promised to defend to the death – three times. Big promises, little performance.

But the angel mentioned Peter by name. Be certain that the one whose confidence was crushed, whose shame ran deep, whose self-recrimination threatened to overwhelm – be sure to let him know that Jesus wants to see him again.

No matter how you might have denied Jesus, His love will restore your shattered heart, His forgiveness will wash away all shame, and He longs to meet with you again. His arms are open, and He calls you by name. His forgiveness promises a new beginning.

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. He is faithful to forgive every sin and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness. There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus!
