Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light
Knowledge of the Truth brings a burden or a blessing to our lives. Truth that is applied brings blessing. Truth that is not applied burdens us.
In today’s verse, Jesus encourages everyone who labors under a heavy burden to come to Him for rest; He promises that His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. In this verse, the Greek word zygόs is used to denote a yoke or a set of scales. For either of them to work properly, they must be balanced.
When a farmer places a yoke on a team of oxen, he is telling them that there are fields to be plowed. When we shoulder the yoke of Jesus, we understand that we have work to accomplish. It is not a matter of if we will work; it is a matter of for whom we work.
We do not escape a yoke. The one who is in charge places the yoke across our necks. For those who live outside of Christ, the ruler of this world, Satan, places a yoke on their necks. For those who submit to Jesus, He becomes our Master and Lord.
Whose yoke are you wearing? Satan’s yoke is one of burden and bondage. Jesus’ yoke is light and easy and filled with blessing.
Today’s Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Give all of your burdens to the Lord, and He will carry the load. He cares for you.
