For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

The quality of our lives, of our relationships with family and friends – even with God Himself – is captured in this one word: forgiveness.

Forgiveness allows the past to die and forges a new beginning. It is the key that unlocks the door of hatred and resentment and allows the fresh wind of love and acceptance to blow through our hearts. Forgiveness is the power that breaks the chains of bitterness and anger and allows us to walk away free. It brings restoration in our marriages, healing to our families, and unity in the body of Christ.

Forgiveness was one of the major themes of Jesus’ ministry. He showed us the lavish love and extravagant forgiveness of our Father, and He admonished us to be just as generous in our forgiveness of others. If we do not practice forgiveness, that refusal has the power to destroy the quality of our lives on earth and forfeit our invitation to enter through the gates of heaven.

Forgiveness begins as an act of our will – whether we feel like extending grace or not. Following obedience to the Word of God, inner healing will come so completely that peace will be restored to us. Whom do you need to forgive today?

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Jesus has paid the price for our forgiveness and has given us the power of His Holy Spirit to practice forgiveness and peace towards others. Do all things through Christ as He gives you strength.
