MEMORIAL DAY IS FOR THANKFULLY REMEMBERING

May 31, 2021“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13

Memorial Day is a day that is set aside to remember, and honor, our brave soldiers who have given their lives to protect our land and keep us free. It began as a day to honor our Civil War dead, but after World War I, it was expanded to include all the wars in which America was involved. 

Just stop and think about some of what these wonderful young people gave up for us. At the very least, they gave years of their life, and time away from their families to serve their country which they love. We can never begin to understand what they went through, and are continuing to go through, all because they love their nation and the freedoms we take for granted every day.  And we can never begin to repay them and their families for the sacrifices they have made for us.

Jesus said, “Greater love has no man than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” Certainly, those who have given their lives to preserve our freedoms have set an example in service to our nation. But Jesus Christ has set the ultimate example in giving His life for all mankind.

On this Memorial Day, as we honor and remember the brave men and women who have served our nation, remember the One who gave His life for our salvation.
