MERCY AND LOVE

Ephesians 2:4-5 (NLT), Luke 6:36 (TPT), Proverbs 11:17

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) *Show mercy and compassion for others, just as your heavenly Father overflows with mercy and compassion for all.” *The merciful man doeth good to his own soul:…

Showing mercy unto others is a major dimension of walking in love. It is our understanding of the great love and mercy that God has shown us in Christ that fuels our ability to show love and mercy unto others.

It is while we were yet sinners that Christ died for us, (Rom.5:8). We did not deserve God’s love and mercy, but God chose to show us His love and mercy anyway. We do not show love and mercy to people because they deserve it, we show people love and mercy because that is our nature. It is a major part of our kingdom’s lifestyle. God is merciful and just like Him, we must be merciful unto others also.

In showing mercy unto others, we must forgive those who hurt us and not try to hurt them or retaliate for what they did to us. We must not hold grudges against one another or desire that evil or hurt comes to anyone. Instead, we must love and pray for them as Jesus said we should in Matthew 5:44. Ask God to touch, bless them and transform their lives. Overcome evil with good. The Bible says, “Put on, therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye,” (Col.3:12-13).

Prayer:
Dear Father, thank you for the great love and mercy you have shown me in Christ. Help me to extend this love and mercy to others.
