MORE THAN WE CAN IMAGINE

March 17, 2024

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think…
Ephesians 3:20

If you have ever been around children, you know they often have great imaginations.

  • A playroom can instantly become a pirate ship.
  •  A closet can convert into a dragon’s lair.
  •  And a couch turns into a rocket.

Maybe you, while no longer a child, have a large imagination. As adults, we often imagine the next vacation, the next promotion, the next house. Maybe you dream about finding the perfect spouse or retirement. Maybe you imagine more than you care to admit.

In Ephesians 3, Paul gives us such a good reminder that regardless of your imagination, God has something better.

He is able to do “far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think.”

Think about that. God, working through you, has plans that haven’t even crossed your mind! You’ve got to admit, that’s pretty exciting.

Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean God has a better vacation, or promotion, or new house for you. That might be the case, but God has priorities other than our comfort.

Paul is praying for the Ephesian church to be blessed beyond anything they have ever dreamed. But he is also praying that the glory of God will be experienced through this church.

You see, God’s plans are greater than ours, not just because God is bigger than us, but also because God’s ultimate objective is so much greater than what motivates us daily. We tend to pray about our daily needs and our daily wants – and God does care about those things – but He knows we will be most fulfilled when we have experienced HIS will for our lives. We taste life to the fullest when we are in a relationship with God and living each day with a divine purpose.

Look at Verses 20 and 21 together.

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.”

That says it all, doesn’t it?

Like Paul, my hope and prayer are that you will experience the glory of God, the greatness of God, the majesty of God, the awesomeness of God—not just now, but for generations to come.

May we be reminded that our imaginations are so small compared to what God has planned for our lives through His power and glory.

To Him be the glory in all things.
