Develop the art of waiting on God by praying with targets.
Set yourself targets for praying. You can set yourself a target of prayer by giving yourself a number of hours to pray . For instance, you can decide to pray for ten hours, twenty hours, forty hours or fifty hours. With a target of fifty hours, you are likely to need about six days to pray . Sometimes, setting the target in terms of hours is better than setting the number of days you want to wait on the Lord.
I have always felt that unless I spent a long time in prayer, I would not accomplish much. All the prayers I learnt from Jesus were prayers of many hours.
Jesus spent forty days in the wilderness.
Jesus prayed all night in the mountain before He chose His disciples. Jesus prayed for a great while before day.
Jesus prayed for three hours in the Garden of Gethsemane.
These examples must be a guide for your prayer life. They will make you spend many hours of your life in prayer.
If you believe in these examples from the life and ministry of Jesus you will never be satisfied with five and ten minute prayers. You will desire to pray for lengthy periods of time.
