NEVER DESPISE CHASTENING AND CORRECTION

Prov. 3:11-12 (NKJV), Prov. 15:32 (NLT), 2Tim 3:16-17 (NIV) … do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction;…whom the Lord loves He corrects,… as a father the son in whom he delights. *If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself;… if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding. *All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

It is important to understand that correction is an act of love to keep you from the path of destruction. In fact, it is an experience that is aimed at enhancing your fruitfulness. Hebrews 12:5-6 (NKJV) says, “….My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” Proverbs 29:1 (KJV) adds, “He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.” The Good News Bible says, “If you get more stubborn every time you are corrected, one day you will be crushed and never recover.”

Most destructions do not occur suddenly. They occur gradually, as correction is ignored and more compromises are made. Ignoring correction makes you progress in the path of destruction, while taking correction enhances your chances of experiencing restoration.

Though it can be painful, it is actually because you are bearing fruit that you are being pruned or purged so that you can bear even more fruit, (John 15:2). “Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed, Heb.12:11-13 (NKJV). Don’t be discouraged and don’t allow the devil to convince you that it is because you are hated that you are being corrected.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I receive your grace to embrace correction and to learn and respond better every time I am being corrected.
