NEVER DESPISE YOURSELF

Judges 6:12, 14- 16 (NLT), 1John 4:4b The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!” ..”Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” “But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!” The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.” *.. greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

In the Good News Bible, there is a portion of Romans 12:3 that says, “…Do not think of yourself more highly than you should…” This verse reflects the fact that God wants us to think of or value ourselves highly, but not more highly than necessary. When the way you see yourself ultimately prevents you from doing that which God wants you to do, you are either seeing yourself more highly or lower than the way God sees you.

The way Gideon responded to the Angel in our text above is similar to how Moses responded when God spoke to him from the burning bush. “…Moses said, “No, LORD, don’t send me. I have never been a good speaker, and I haven’t become one since you began to speak to me. I am a poor speaker, slow and hesitant.” The LORD said to him, “Who gives man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or dumb? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? It is I, the LORD. Now, go! I will help you to speak, and I will tell you what to say,” (Exo. 4:10-12).

Do you know the Bible says, “Moses was given the best education in Egypt and He was a strong man and a powerful speaker,” (Acts 7:22, CEV)? But when it was time to fulfil God’s purpose for his life, Moses began to despise himself and his abilities and God was angry with him, (Exo.4:14). Looking down on yourself is not humility and seeing yourself the way God sees you is not pride. Stop allowing your past and what people say about you to make you look down on yourself. See yourself the way God sees you. God sees you just like Christ. God is your sufficiency (2Cor.3:5, 2Cor.9:8) and you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you, (Phil.4:13).

Prayer:
Dear Father, I receive your grace to always see myself the way that you see me and to always remember that You are my sufficiency.
