NO NEGATIVE IDENTITY

4th August 2023

Scripture Reading: 1 SAMUEL 16: 1-14

Focus

“And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.” (1 Samuel 16: 12)

Prior to our Focal Scripture, when Samuel asked if there was any other son of Jesse, he was told that the youngest (David) was taking care of the sheep. David took his father’s sheep for grazing in the bush. David would later admit to Saul that he faced lions and other wild animals whilst in the bush. Notice that David arrived from the bush, but had a beautiful countenance and was good looking. He didn’t look like what he had been through.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: you will not look like what you have been through. You will not look like the challenges you have been through. You will not be a reflection of the negativities that have come your way. You will not look like the subterfuge and the backstabs that happened to you. You will not look like the mess you have been through. You will not look like your struggles. You will not look like the bush you have been in.

David had spent time in the bush, with sheep, and in unfriendly circumstances; but he showed up before Samuel having a beautiful countenance and looking goodly. He didn’t look like the negativity he had been through. As surely as the Lord lives, no matter what you go through, you will not look like it. You will not look like the battles you have been through. You will not look like the pitfalls and conspiracies that have come your way.

Do well not to wear your negative experiences like a garment. Don’t allow what you have been through to live within you. Don’t allow your failures to define you. Don’t allow your losses to remodel you negatively. Don’t allow what went wrong in your life in time past to rub off on you badly. Don’t allow your negative experiences with ‘lions’ and ‘bears’ to affect you negatively. Don’t allow negative experiences to make you look negative.

The negativities you have been through will not live in you, and should not live in you. No matter what happens, never wear your negative experiences like a garment.

Declaration

I will not look like the negativities I have been through, in Jesus’ name!
