Memorise: “A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.” – Proverbs 14:30

Read: James 3:14-16

14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Samuel 4-6; Luke 18:18-43

MESSAGE:

Envy is a terrible thing. It is so terrible that Proverbs 14:30 says it causes bones to rot. When you envy your friend because she has new shoes, she may be rocking them without knowing someone is envying her, but the fellow who is envious will be rotting away within herself.

The Bible says in Romans 12:15a:

“Rejoice with them that do rejoice,”

Anything outside this is evil and not of the Lord. When you rejoice, you are tapping into their joy and soon, your own day of rejoicing will come.

When you feel envious about someone, the way to handle it is to pray for the person sincerely from your heart. In the process of praying, that spirit of envy will depart from you.

Key Point:

At least for your own good, don’t envy anyone.

Hymn 3:

1 When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3 Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4 But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5 Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
