Memorise: And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. Daniel 1:20.
Read: Daniel 1:17-20
17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.
20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
Bible In One Year: Proverbs 23-24, 2 Corinthians 5
MESSAGE:
In every field of human endeavour, those who excel are usually celebrated and honoured. Second best is a good position, but I have never been satisfied with being second. I always want to be in the first position. I am sure you also be the first in your studies and all your endeavours. You must note however that you are not the only one who wants to be the first, so whoever will take that position will have to work really hard. Fortunately for you, you have an added advantage, and that is the Holy Spirit. If you can be very close to Him, He will ensure that you will remember everything that you have read (John 14:26). He will also point you to what to read before the exams and how to answer questions in the exam hall. He is your ultimate advantage, stay close to Him.
Cheating to be the first actually puts you in the last position. It means you accept that the other fellow is far better than you and you don’t have what it takes to perform better.
Key Point:
Healthy competition always makes you better.
Hymn 1:
1 My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!
2 May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm and changeless be,
A living fire!
3 While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.
4 When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;
Blest Savior, then, in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul.
