Memorise: Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; Ephesians 6:2

Bible Reading: Ephesians 6:1-3

  1. Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
  2. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
  3. That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 20-22; John 10:22-42

MESSAGE:

There is nothing cool about being rebellious. If you are a rebellious child, you are on your way to destruction. There is an adage that says: What an adult will see while sitting, a child will not see it even if he climbs on a tree.

This simply means that your parents and elders have more experience about life than you do. So, if they advise you against a particular action, it is better to obey unless the advise is contrary to the word of God.

Many lives and destinies have been destroyed by disobedience. For instance, a child who has been warned on several occasions not to stay late outside, but then goes to a club and falls into the hands of ritualists on his way back home, what will become of such a child?.

No child of God should be seen in a night club and any unholy place. My child, obey your parents. If they want you back home at a particular time, get home even before then. If they don’t approve of a friend, stay away from the fellow before he/she puts you in trouble. Know that obedience guarantees you security from shame and eternal damnation.

God hates rebellion while He delights in obedience. If you love God, obedience will not be a problem for you (John 14:15).

Prayer Point:

Obey your parents, so that your days may be long.

Hymn 8:

1.God give us Christian homes!
Homes Where the Bible is loved and taught,
Homes where the master’s will is sought,
Homes crowned with beauty
Thy love hath wrought;
God give us Christian homes;
God give us Christian homes!

2.God give us Christian homes!
Homes where the father is true and strong,
Homes that are free from the blight of wrong,
Homes that are joyous with love and song;
God give us Christian homes;
God give us Christian homes!

3.God give us Christian homes!
Homes where the mother in queenly quest,
Strives to show others Thy way is best,
Homes where the Lord is an honoured guest;
God give us Christian homes;
God give us Christian homes!

4.God give us Christian homes!
Homes where the Children are led to know,
Christ in His beauty who loves them so,
Homes where the altar fire burn and glow;
God give us Christian homes;
God give us Christian homes!
