ONLY UNITE FOR A GODLY PURPOSE (1)

Genesis 11:5-8 (NLT)
But the Lord came down to look at…the tower the people were building. “Look!” he said. “The people are united….After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them! Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.” In that way, the Lord scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city.

It is good to be united, but unity must always be in line with God’s will and purpose. The reason why God had to disrupt the unity of the people in Genesis 11 was that the purpose for their unity was against God’s purpose and plan for their lives. They did not want to spread across the face of the earth, (Gen. 11:4) but when God made man, God’s desire was for man to fill and replenish the earth (Gen.1:28); not stay and occupy in only one part of the earth.

God made man in His image and likeness so that man will reflect God’s glory and represent God on the earth, but instead of this all the people in the tower of Babel wanted was to make a name for themselves. They did not bother to seek and do God’s will.

The fall of man disconnected man from God’s mind, will and purpose but thank God that He sent Jesus to save man and restore us back to His glory and to relationship and fellowship with Him. Now, God wants our lives to always align with His will, plans and purpose for our lives. He wants our lives to honour and bring Him glory. We must not unite ourselves and allow ourselves to be negatively influenced by ungodly people to do things that are against the will of God in the name of unity, (Psa.1:1, Prov.1:10).

Prayer:
Father, may your Spirit always guide us and lead us as we walk in love and unity. May we always fulfill your will and purpose.
