OPEN UP YOURSELF TO GOD’S WORD
Mark 10:17, 20-22 (NIV), Psalms 25:5 (GNB) As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” *… “all these I have kept since I was a boy.” Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” … “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. *Teach me to live according to your truth, for you are my God, who saves me. I always trust in you.
The word of God has to enter you for it to illuminate God’s light (Psa.119:130) and life (John 1:1&4) in you. For God’s word to enter you, you have to open yourself up to it. You have to be very teachable (willing to learn) and receptive to it before it can really benefit you.

Never become over familiar with God’s word or any vessel that God uses to bring His word to you. Doing this can cause you to miss out on God’s glory and grace available for you. Even if it is something you know or have heard before, remain open to the spirit of God as the word from God is delivered to you. In 2Peter 1:12-13 and in 2Peter 3:1, Apostle Peter noted that he would not neglect to remind us even of things we already know before because by doing this, some things are stirred up in us. The Holy Spirit will grant you even greater insight and capacity to walk in that revelation.
There is something that Apostle Paul did which the rich young ruler in our text above was unwilling to do. When compared to knowing Christ, he counted everything else as loss and as dung, (Phil.3:8). May God grant you the grace to value knowing Him even more than Apostle Paul did. Always ensure that nothing is deceiving and hardening your heart to God and His word, (Heb.4:7). Hebrews 3:13& 15 reveals to us that sin can harden our hearts from hearing God’s voice. James 1:21 (NIV) says, “Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you”. Great and abundant grace await you as you open yourself up even more to God’s word.
Prayer:
My heart is open to your word, O Lord. Your word is more important to me than everything else. Teach me your ways. I yield myself to you.
