Our Death and Purpose in Christ

2 Corinthians 5:14-16 (NIV), Galatians 2:20 (NIV)
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. *I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

The more the revelation of our death with Christ dawns on us, the more it will impact and transform our lives. The revelation of our death with Christ fills us with the love of Christ and changes the way we see ourselves. The only hope we had to be victorious over sin was by dying to sin; we could not die to sin by ourselves. Jesus chose, not only to die for us, but to also include us in His death. He came down to this earth and went through all He went through so that He could taste death for us and set us free from the devil’s power and every bondage (Heb. 2:9, 14 & 15). Our death with Christ also freed us from the Law (Rom.7:6). Now we can serve God in a new way-the leading of His Spirit.

This work that Christ accomplished by His suffering and death for us is now what determines the manner in which we see ourselves we see ourselves and others. It serves as the foundation of our new life. By our death with Christ, our old life ended and a new life has begun. This life we have right now is the life of Christ. As Jesus is, so are we right now (1 John 4:17). We are one with Him (1Cor.6:17). We need to start seeing ourselves just as we see Jesus. Until we do this, we cannot embody His life which we have now been given. The more we realize we are dead and that it is Christ who is alive in us, the more the life of Christ will flow from us. Because we are dead, we no more have a life of our own to live. The only life we have to live right now is the life of Jesus. As such, the passion and purpose of Jesus have now become our passion and purpose. We are the one destined to prolong the life of Jesus and continue God’s purpose on the earth (Isa.53:10, GNB). This is our high calling that God wants us to press into (Phil.3:14).

Faith Declaration:
I am dead with Christ. It is no longer I that live. Christ is alive in me. Christ is my life. I live His life, His passion and His purpose.
