…become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world

In the end times, Paul warned that humankind would be lovers of self, lovers of money, and lovers of pleasure – not lovers of God (II Timothy 3:1-5).

We live in an all-about-me, get-rich-quick, have-it-all culture. Sacrifice for the benefit of another person has fallen by the wayside. Self-absorption leaves no room for responsibility or consideration of others.

This preoccupation with self runs exactly contrary to how Jesus’ followers will behave. He insisted that the greatest among us is actually the servant of all (Mark 9:35), that we are our brother’s keeper (I Corinthians 8:12), that we should contribute generously and cheerfully (II Corinthians 9:7), and that we should love goodness, justice, and common sense (Titus 1:8).

Jesus once wrapped a towel around His waist and washed the disciples’ feet. Why would a King behave like a common houseboy? He taught them to extend His mission here on earth, to follow His example of humble service. Like us, these men were commissioned to move into the world serving God, serving one another, and serving all people to whom they took the message of salvation.

And when we follow the blueprint that He designed, we will shine like stars in the middle of this dark and evil last-days generation.

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May you be filled with the light and love of Jesus to shine like the stars for the glory of the One Who sent you!
