While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him” – Matthew 17:5

How do you acknowledge someone and show him honour? Here are a few useful tips to help you do so.

1. Honour someone by making public mention of the person. When you mention a person’s name in a speech or a sermon, you honour the person.

2. Honour someone by publicly acknowledging his presence. Mentioning that a person is present at a meeting is a way of recognizing someone. Recognizing your presence at a meeting is a form of recognition and therefore a form of honour.

3. Honour someone by giving an award. Being given an award is a sign that you are recognized. If awards are given to others, but not to you, in spite of your great achievements then you are being dishonoured. Your achievements are not recognized.

4. Honour someone by inviting him to be a speaker. Being invited to speak is a sign of recognition. When you are asked to speak at a programme, it is a sign of recognition.

5. Honour someone by appointing him to an honourable position. Being appointed to a board or to a position is a sign that you are being recognized.

How do you know that you are not honoured? When you are never mentioned it is a sign that you are not recognized. When public acknowledgment of your presence is not made, you are not recognized. When you are not given awards in spite of your obvious achievements in an area, it is a sign that you are not recognized. When you are never invited to be a speaker, it is a sign that your ministry is not recognized. When you are not appointed to be on a board or given any important job, it is a sign that you are not recognized.
