INTRODUCTION
Praise is to express our thanks to, and reverence God for who He is, what He has done, what He is doing and what she is yet to do for us. All God’s creations are commanded to praise ahim. The Psalmist said in Psalms 103:1-5 “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, [bless] his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good [things; so that] thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s”.
Human beings do not praise God as much as they complain against Him. We enjoy soany benefits that we do not even deserve from God, and we have taken this for granted.
This study is aimed at reminding us of the need to always praise the Lord for His awesome dealings with us.

  1. What the phrase “praise he the Lord” means
  2. Those that are enjoined to praise the Lord
  3. Why we should praise the Lord
  4. Where and when we should praise the Lord
  5. The benefits we derived from praising the Lord

BIBLE TRUTH
QUESTION 1
WHAT DOES THE PHRASE “PRAISE YE THE LORD” MEANS ?
Praise he the Lord is an expression from a heart of gratitude/respect/admiration to God for who He is, what He has done and what He is yet to do. It is a verbal appreciation/gratitude (especially in songs and dance) from a heart that is full of gratitude for what God has done. Praise is an act of worship

QUESTION 2
WHO SHOULD HEED THE INJUNCTION, “PRAISE YE THE LORD” ?
Generally, all God’s creations should praise Him. i.e. Psalms 150:6 “Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD”. In Psalms 33:1 the scripture says “Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: [for] praise is comely for the upright”.
Although all creatures should rejoice and praise the Lord, the redeemed (those that have Covenant relationship with God in Christ Jesus and are happily waiting for His return for eternal redemption) should heed the injunction to praise the Lord.

QUESTION 3
WHY SHOULD WE (REDEEMED OF THE LORD) PRAISE THE LORD Psalm 145:3; 146:6-9; 147:3-6; 8-12; 148:12-13; 150:2
Psalm 136 mentions some of the reasons we should praise the Lord. God is a great God and His greatness is unsearchable. His name is excellent and His glory is above the earth and heaven. For His mighty acts; He made heaven and earth, the sea and all that therein is. He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wound. He gives food to the hungry and upholds the cause of the oppressed. He lifts up the meek and cast down the wicked. We praise God for is love and mercy He shows us in Christ Jesus by accepting us as His children. His provisions, protection and preservation. We praise God for His promises (some have been fulfilled).

QUESTION 4
WHERE AND WHEN SHOULD WE PRAISE THE LORD ? Ps 34:1; 113:3
We praise the Lord everywhere and every time. Everywhere God’s creation is, and His presence dwells, is where His praise is commanded. Psalms 34:1……” I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise [shall] continually [be] in my mouth”.

QUESTION 5.
WHAT BENEFITS DO WE DERIVE FROM PRAISING THE LORD ? 2Chron 5:13-14
The scripture declare that God inhabits the praise of His people (Ps 22:3). We derive many benefits from praising God. Praise touches God’s heart. It helps to reflect on God’s promises. It brings down God’s presence. It rejoices the soul of the singer and the listeners. It makes the believers confident of the ability of God to fulfil His promises. It lightens/rolls away one’s burden. Praises conquer fear, failure and the enemy.

DAILY LIVING APPLICATION
Praising the Lord is the lifestyle of the redeemed of the Lord. It is obligatory for us , no matter the age, status or situation. Even out of the mouth of babes and sucklings, God has perfected praise. As God gives us life and all that are needed to live on earth, we reflect on His goodness and mercies to us, our families, the church and the nation, then “praise ye the Lord”
