1 Samuel 30:7-8 & 10, 18 (GNB) David said to the priest Abiathar son of Ahimelech, “Bring me the ephod,” and Abiathar brought it to him. David asked the LORD, “Shall I go after those raiders? And will I catch them?” He answered, “Go after them; you will catch them and rescue the captives.” David continued on his way with four hundred men;…David rescued everyone and everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives;

The fact that David could pray in the midst of great distress was really wonderful. However, the way David prayed, heard God’s voice and stepped out in faith in line with God’s leading is equally amazing. The way some believers live reveals the fact that they have lost confidence in God and in the power of prayer. Some believers believe that there are certain things God does not want them to pray about and some believers do not believe that God will answer and speak directly to them if they were to pray about a certain matter. God wants us to pray always (Eph.6:18a) and in everything (Phil.4:6), regardless of whether it is a pleasurable time or a trying time, (James 5:13).

Jesus Himself prayed a whole lot throughout His life on this earth. The Holy Spirit is always willing to empower us and direct us as we pray. When David was praying, he did not say, “Lord, this is what I want to do, so bless it.” On the contrary, he said, “God should I do this? Will this plan succeed?” And God gave him a definite answer. As you pray unto God, by His Spirit, you will receive both peace and direction about the situation. He will show you God’s mind and what God has freely prepared for you, (1Cor.2:9-12). You will know what to do about the situation, (James 1:5).

God is always speaking to us; we are the ones who are usually not quiet enough to listen to Him, (Psa. 46:10). David went out in faith because God told him to and as they went, God used an abandoned slave to give them further direction. As you step out in faith based on the answers you have previously received in prayer, God will give you further direction and use vessels you may not even expect. God will favour you and confirm His Word to you.

Prayer Focus:

Open up yourself to God right now and seek His mind concerning your desires. Pray as the Spirit leads you.
