Pray for their Eyes to be Opened

2 Kings 6:15:17
And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

The story in our text above gives us a very good picture of why prayer is important in the preaching of the gospel. There was a terrible challenge before Gehazi and Elisha but God had already made provision for their victory. The problem however was that Gehazi cannot see the provision that God had made for them. Only Elisha knew and saw it. When Elisha spoke to Gehazi and said, “they that are will us are more than they that are with them,” it did not make sense to Gehazi and he must have panicked.

Beyond speaking and declaring God’s truth to Gehazi, Elisha had to pray for him. He prayed for God to open Gehazi’s eyes and God did open his eyes. Gehazi eventually saw in the Spirit the wonderful provision that God had made for their victory. After Gehazi’s eyes were opened, he must have stopped panicking and started thanking God for the great provision God had made for them. Both of them were then able to experience victory over the situation.

As you preach the gospel of Christ to people and the wonderful things that God has done for us in Christ, sometimes it will not make sense to them because they cannot see it yet in the Spirit. But as you pray for them, God will open their spiritual eyes to see what you are saying to them. This is why Apostle Paul did not only preach the gospel to people, he also prayed for God to open their spiritual eyes and flood their hearts with the light of the truth and their glorious realities in Christ, (Eph.1:15-20). As we pray today for ourselves and for other believers, God will open our eyes to see glorious things about His will and purpose for our lives and the wonderful things that He has done for us in Christ.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I ask that you open my eyes and the eyes of other believers to your glorious truth, provisions and our realities in Christ.
