PRAYING ABOUT THE LOVE OF GOD

Ephesians 3:14, 17b-19 (NIV)

For this reason, I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. … And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

We need to pray about the love of God. The love of God is real, it is powerful and it has been freely given to us through Christ; but we need to pray for God to help us understand and know His love.

In our text above, there are three different ways Paul prayed about the love of God. He first of all prayed that our lives would be rooted and established in the love of God. Next, he prayed that we would grasp the different dimensions of God’s love – how high, how long, how wide, and how deep the love of Christ is. The love of Christ is the love God has shown us through Christ. Finally, he prayed that we would know this love. He said it is a knowing that is beyond head knowledge. We can only know the revelation of the love of Christ by a deep heart experience. God loves you as much as He loves Christ, (John 17:23).

The love of God is so powerful that it can transform our lives and make us know and walk in more of God’s fulness. Our faith is activated, energized and expressed through the love of God, (Gal.5:6, AMPC). God wants us to grow in His love and He wants His love in our hearts to grow. In Philippians 1:9 (CEV), Paul said, “I pray that your love will keep on growing…” The only way our love for one another will grow is as the revelation of God’s love in our hearts grows.

Prayer:
Father, please help me to be rooted in your love. Help me to grasp the various dimensions of your love. Help me to know your love
