PRAYING IN THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT
Ephesians 6:18, 1Corinthians 14:2 & 4
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching there unto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; *For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. *He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
To pray in the power of the Spirit is to pray under the influence and leading of the Holy Spirit. Prayer is a major avenue by which the Holy Spirit empowers and leads us to manifest and experience the will of God, (Rom.8:26). God wants us to be conscious of the leading and empowerment of His Spirit when we are praying.
Praying in other tongues is a major part of praying in the Spirit, but to pray in the power of the Spirit is not just to pray in other tongues. It is to pray under the unction and enablement of the Holy Spirit. Praying in other tongues is like a gateway into the realm of the Spirit and a way by which your spirit prays. However, as your spirit begins to pray, the Holy Spirit begins to quicken and empower your mind to know and pray according to God’s will also. You are able to overcome any weakness and limitation of
your mind. This is why Paul said he would pray with his spirit then with his mind also, (1Cor.14:14-15).
When you pray in the Spirit, you pray as Christ. You build up yourself and make massive progress in the realm of the Spirit, which will reflect in your life. Jude 1:20 (AMPC) says, “But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit”.
Action Point:
Pray in faith and the power of the Spirit right now, over every desire on your heart and pray for other believers too.
