Pride Antidote

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”

Philippians 2:3-4

If you were to look into the wrong end of a telescope you would see a different view. Instead of objects looking bigger and closer, they appear smaller and more distant. C. S. Lewis suggested that pride is like looking through a telescope upside down, making us seem bigger and the heavens smaller. That’s a great picture of pride and why it’s the source of all the problems in creation, including yours and mine. Today’s scripture provides us with the antidote to pride: Humility. Now being humble is not thinking you’re insignificant or unimportant. It’s not thinking less of yourself either; it’s simply thinking of yourself less! Jesus is our example. He willingly chose to humble Himself; to serve rather than to be served. So let me encourage you to walk in humility with Christ today. Doing so will flip your telescope right side up!
