He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

We do not talk about sin in America; we talk about the problems that it creates. We do not talk about the origin; we focus on the symptoms. Until we get to the root of the cause, we will never discover the cure for our condition.

Issues that we face around the world are not merely behavioral symptoms that can be treated with better education, new legislation or citizen organization. Humans have a sin problem!

Mass shootings are not a gun control issue; they are a sin problem. Four thousand abortions per day is not a political issue; it is a sin problem.

Adultery is not a momentary lapse of judgment; it is a sin problem. Lying is not a matter of perspective; it is a sin problem. Battering a spouse is not an anger management issue; it is a sin problem.

Until we have the courage to acknowledge that we have a sin problem, we will never address it. Until we confess our trespasses, we will never be cured. If we freely admit our sin, our faithful and fair God will forgive us, cleanse us from all evil, and give us brand new lives. We will look different, and our society will look different. First, we must get to the root.

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Let us humble ourselves in prayer, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways. May God forgive our sins and heal our land. In the powerful name of Jesus…amen.
