I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever
Thanksgiving is only one week away! More than a one-day-a-year celebration, thanksgiving should be the everyday overflow of our hearts.
The psalmist gives us a great reminder. With sweeping passion, he declares that he will bless the name of the Lord forever and ever. Yet, the next verse draws it a little closer to home. He promises to bless the King every single day. Then, he explains how he might fulfill that vow in the rest of Psalm 145.
He promises to meditate on the splendor of God’s majesty. He will recall how He is gracious, full of compassion, slow to anger, great in mercy, and good to all.
He will declare God’s mighty acts, His wondrous works, and His glorious kingdom. He will remind others of all His blessings. His mouth will speak the praise of the Lord.
He turns his eyes expectantly to the Lord Who satisfies the desire of every living thing. This is our Savior Who draws near and preserves all those who love Him.
For the next week, bless your King every single day. Take time to meditate on all He is and all He has done for you. Testify to others about His overwhelming kindness to you. If we are to praise Him forever and ever, we should begin to practice now!
Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May your heart overflow with gratitude for all God has done. Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised!
