For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.
When Naaman, the leper, arrived at the prophet’s house seeking healing, he stepped out of his chariot looking for the red carpet. After all, he was a celebrated war hero in his home country of Syria!
Elisha did not even come to the door. Instead, he sent his servant with a message for Naaman: if he would go dip seven times in the Jordan River, his skin would be healed, and health would be restored.
Naaman was livid! The prophet did not even deign to speak with him, important man that he was! He did not come out and wave his hand over the leprosy to heal it. He merely suggested that Naaman go jump in the dirty river.
In the middle of his rantings, Naaman’s servant dared to ask: “…if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it?” (II Kings 5:13). Naaman’s great, big pride was preventing him from taking a simple, small step that would make him whole.
We all have the leprosy of sin in our souls. One prayer can wash us clean. One step of obedience can set us free. Like Naaman, is pride standing between you and the healing you seek? Run to the river and jump in with both feet to be made whole!
Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Humble yourself before the Lord, and He will lift you up! May you do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God all the days of your life.
