Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!

When our hearts are broken, we should postpone important decisions while we are still picking up the pieces. We should wait until we are above it or have some distance for the opportunity to think clearly.

After David’s heartbreak, he strengthened himself in the Lord. Then, he inquired of the Lord; he asked for specific instruction about how to proceed. The enemy had burned his city to the ground, carried away the women and children, and stolen all of the valuables. David and his mighty men were brokenhearted at this deep loss.

When David went before the Lord, he asked a strange question: “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” (I Samuel 30:8). David was a warrior. He had killed lions, bears, men, and giants. His blood was running hot, and he was zealous to recover the families. He knew what he wanted to do, what he was trained to do. But he did not want to pursue the enemy until God gave His permission.

He wisely waited to ask what God thought about his plan. Before we use the instincts and intuition that God gives us to make decisions, we must be certain to submit our carnal minds to His spiritual will before we make a decision that could result in death. Wisdom lies in the waiting.

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Wait on the Lord! He will strengthen and encourage your heart. He will make everything beautiful in His time.
