The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way

When Naaman, the leper, arrived at the prophet’s house seeking healing, Elisha did not even come to the door. Instead, he sent his servant with a message for Naaman: if he would go dip seven times in the Jordan River, his skin would be healed and restored.

Naaman was outraged! Elisha did not even speak to him, did not even wave his hand over the leprosy to heal it. He merely suggested that Naaman go jump in the dirty river. He could have saved himself the long journey.

What a simple solution, and yet, Naaman hesitated, resisted, and even scorned Elisha’s advice. Perhaps, he expected something more dramatic in keeping with his important stature. Maybe he believed that he needed to perform a more difficult feat to prove he was worthy.

How many times do we find ourselves in this same situation? God gives us a gentle nudge. A friend shares some wise words of counsel. The Holy Spirit whispers from the pages of scripture. Yet, we drag our feet and question every simple instruction. Our hesitation limits the blessings He can give to us.

What simple steps has God asked you to take? Where is He leading? Your steps are arranged by God. He goes ahead of you to make the path sure, and He delights in your obedience when He looks back to find you following in His footsteps.

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May you follow the Gentle Shepherd as He leads you in the way everlasting.
