He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty

What does it mean to abide in Christ? The dictionary defines abiding as “continuing without fading or being lost, living or dwelling.”

Abiding conjures up images of surveying the perfect spot in the shadow of the Almighty, bringing in an excavator to dig a deep foundation, pouring some solid concrete, putting up some brick walls and a sturdy roof, and moving in for keeps. There’s a rocking chair on the wide front porch where we can while away the hours, just enjoying the company of the Lord.

There is a deciding, a choosing, and a clinging to Him. In the beginning, it comes as a one-time yes to Jesus. As we walk with Him, we make many choices a day that draw us closer or pull us farther from Him. Abiding takes putting down roots and sticking to Him like glue.

We can give our hearts without fear. His promises to us are “Yes and Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20). If He said it, He will do it. If He promised it, He will make good on it. If things do not appear to be going our way, we can trust in a way that is higher than ours.

Abide in Him. Make Him your permanent address. Determine to stay put, to choose Him no matter the circumstances. Make Him your forever home.

Today’s Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May you live deeply in Christ, and may He abide in you. Set your heart on things above!
