SUNDAY JULY 30TH, JULY

PURSUING CHRIST

Philippians 3:8 (AMPC)

…I count everything as loss compared to the possession of the priceless privilege (…) of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of progressively becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him [of perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more fully and clearly]. For His sake I have lost everything and consider it all to be mere rubbish (…), in order that I may win (gain) Christ (…),

How strong is your desire to become more like Christ? Christ is the source of our life (Col.3:4). We can do nothing without Him (John 15:5). Our greatest passion and desire must be to become more and more like Christ each day. I am not referring to pursuing Christ solely for the purpose of receiving something from Him (as the multitude did in John 6:24-27), nor am I referring to simply engaging in some service or ministry activities for Him (as Martha did in Luke 10:38-42). I’m referring to pursuing Christ because you want to know Him better and be more like Him. The race that has been set before us is to become more like Christ, and our eyes must remain fixed on Him as we run this race (Heb.12:1-2). Our destiny is to be conformed to the image of Christ (Rom.8:29). The goal of our high calling is to reach the fullness of Christ (Phil.3:14). God desires for us to mature into Christ in all things (Eph.4:13 & 15).

To follow Christ and become more like Him, we must desire Him and keep our focus and attention fixed on Him at all times. The Holy Spirit transforms us from one level of glory to another as we study the scriptures and seek what God reveals to us about Christ (2Cor.3:18, AMPC). There will be numerous distractions and discouragements along the way, but we must persevere.

Prayer:
Dear Father, I desire to know Christ and be more like Him each day. Please reveal Christ to me and make me more like Christ.
