Raise the Standard of Your Words

Ephesians 4:29(AMP), John 12:49(NLT), 1 Corinthians 2:13(GNB)

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it…. we do not speak in words taught by human wisdom, but….words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual truths to those who have have the Spirit.A good person brings good out of the treasure of good things in his heart… the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

God is particular about the way that we speak. Unfortunately the way many believers speak is often a reflection of their ignorance of the power of their words . In the Amplified Bible, our first text above implores us to “(let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk(ever)come out of your mouth, but only such (speech) as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.”

God does not expect us to speak the way everyone else around us speaks. We are expected to speak in a that will encourage and uplift others. Do your words encourage and build others up or discourage and destroy their faith? The words that we speak to ourselves and to others are very important. Yes, it is true that the scriptures in our text above refer mainly to what we say when we preach the gospel. However, the same standard is expected of us when we are speaking.
We cannot preach faith and speak fear. Be an example in the way you speak (1 Timothy 4:12).God expects us to speak like Christ. The way Jesus spoke caused Him to experience the power of God and do mighty works (John 14:10, Mark 6:2).

No matter how you feel or what others are saying, choose to speak words that are in line with Christ and the wisdom of God. The word of God is in your mouth and in your heart (Romans 10:8). Speak it . Speak words that are in line with the lordship of Christ. Speak words that will make people put their faith in God and not in the wisdom of men (2 Corinthians 2:4-5).

Action Point:
Speak the wisdom of God right now concerning every challenge in your life. Declare God’s word and victory into every area of your life.
