REASON FOR GUARDING YOUR JOY JEALOUSLY (1)

Joel 1:10 & 12, Nehemiah 8:10b

The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. *The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men. *…for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

Your fruitfulness, as well as the fruitfulness of everything you do and everything around you, is greatly tied to the amount of joy you have in your heart. This is a major reason why you must continually guard your joy jealously. Your being joyful can also affect everyone around you, especially when you are a leader. As a leader, your attitude both towards people and towards your responsibility can greatly influence the attitude of those you’re leading.

Another important reason you must guard your joy jealously is that your joyfulness affects your strength and your health. Proverbs 17:22 (KJV) says, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” The Good News Bible says, “Being cheerful keeps you healthy. It is slow death to be gloomy all the time.” The Passion Translation says, “A joyful, cheerful heart brings healing to both body and soul. But the one whose heart is crushed struggles with sickness and depression.”

Anything trying to steal your joy is out to steal your fruitfulness, your strength and your health. Don’t allow it. Guard your joy jealously. Remain joyful. Remain deliberate about lifting up your head and rejoicing in God for His love, presence, power, plans and promises.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please help me to guard my joy jealously and use me to spread your joy into the lives of others
