REASONS WE DESPISE AND AVOID SIN (1)

Proverbs 15:9 (GNB), Habakkuk 1:13a (AMPC), Hebrews 1:9 (GNB)

The LORD hates the ways of evil people, but loves those who do what is right. *You are of purer eyes than to behold evil and cannot look [inactively] upon injustice…. *You love what is right and hate what is wrong. That is why God, your God, has chosen you and has given you the joy of an honor far greater than he gave to your companions.”

The first and most important reason why we hate sin and abstain from it is because God hates it. God hates sin so much and He does not like to see sin. Even when Jesus became sin for us on the Cross of Calvary, God had to turn His face away from Jesus, (2 Cor.5:21, Mark 15:34).

It is because God hates sin and loves us, that He sent Jesus to die for our sins so we can be set free from sin. Jesus did not only die for us to be forgiven, He also died so that the power of sin will be broken from our lives. We died with Jesus on the Cross and became free from the power of sin, (Rom.6:1-7). As a believer in Christ, sin no longer has dominion over you and sin is no more your lifestyle. This is a very major benefit of the Cross of Christ.

There’s absolutely nothing good about sin. Sin is destructive and it brings death, (Rom.6:23). It has so many negative physical and spiritual consequences. Sin is highly deceptive and it can harden a believer’s heart against God, (Heb.3:13). It can make a believer’s heart and love for God grow cold, (Matt.24:12). Continuing in sin (Rom.6:1) can sear a believer’s conscience and lead to a shipwreck of his faith in Christ, (1Tim.1:19, 1Tim.4:2). Sin weakens the soul (1Pet.2:11) and brings a lot of pain, reproach and shame, (Prov.14:34).

Faith Declaration:
Jesus has delivered me from the grip of sin. I, like Christ, despise sin and cherish righteousness. I have authority over sin.
