REASONS WE DESPISE AND AVOID SIN (2)

1Peter 1:13-16 (LB)

So now you can look forward soberly and intelligently to more of God’s kindness to you when Jesus Christ returns. Obey God because you are his children; don’t slip back into your old ways—doing evil because you knew no better. But be holy now in everything you do, just as the Lord is holy, who invited you to be his child. He himself has said, “You must be holy, for I am holy.”

Another very important reason why we hate sin and abstain from it is that continuing in sin can distract a believer from God’s purpose for his/her life. “In a large house, there are dishes and bowls of all kinds: some are made of silver and gold, others of wood and clay; some are for special occasions, others for ordinary use. Those who make themselves clean from all those evil things, will be used for special purposes, because they are dedicated and useful to their Master, ready to be used for every good deed,” (2 Tim.2:20-21, GNB). When sin distracts a believer from God’s purpose, that believer is allowing sin to rob him/her of great rewards from Christ, (Rev.22:12).

Sin can also make a believer bring reproach to God’s name, (Ezek. 36:19-21, Rom.2:24). This can affect the faith of other believers and it can discourage unbelievers from putting their faith in Jesus.

Yes, God has made provision for us to receive His mercy and be restored to fellowship with Him ‘if’ we sin (1 John 2:1-2), but God does not expect us to continue in sin because sin is no more our nature and sin has so many terrible consequences. God wants us to be holy because He is holy. God has made us holy. God wants us to grow and perfect (mature in) His holy nature in us, (2 Cor.7:1).

Faith Declaration:
I will not allow sin to distract me from God’s will and purpose for my life. I am perfecting holiness in the fear of God
