Receive God’s Abundant Mercies
2 Samuel 9:1, 3-4a, 13 (NIV), Roman 9:15-16 (NKJV)
David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” *The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.” “Where is he?” the king asked… *And Mephibosheth … always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.*For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.
The story of David and Mephibosheth in our first text above serves as a reflection of the power of the mercies of God. When David asked for any member of Saul’s household that he could show mercy to, Zona was very quick to tell David that Jonathan’s son was lame in his feet. It is possible that he made reference to Mephibosheth’s weakness because he suspected that doing so may have caused David to change his mind. But that did not stop David in any way.
In the same way, I want you to know, that nothing and no one can make God change His mind about showing you His great love and mercies. Men may not feel you deserve God’s mercies, but God will not consult men before He shows you His mercy and kindness. Even Mephibosheth called himself a dead dog when he came before David (2Sam.9:8). He felt hopeless and afraid.
At that time, when a new king takes power, he intentionally eliminated every member of the formal king’s family. Instead of receiving the death he feared, David showed Mephibosheth great love and kindness for Jonathan’s sake, (2Sam.9:9-10&13). All the lands of his grandfather were restored to him and he ate at the king’s table continually. Your weakness will not stop God from showing you His love and kindness. His love and kindness will heal you and life you out of that weakness or situation. Do not disqualify yourself when God has not disqualified you. Do not run away from God when you need Him the most. Run to Him. Come boldly to God’s throne of grace to obtain His mercy and fine His grace to help you in that your area of need (Heb.4:16). Because of Christ, God has pledged to show you His mercies. Receive God’s abundant mercies right now. You shall experience unbelievable restoration and abundance by the mercies of God.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come boldly to your throne of grace right now to obtain your abundant mercies and grace for my life.
